How to Join Scouts in Queenstown

Kia ora! Thank you for your interest in having your child join the scouting movement. At the Queenstown Scout Group we have our own waitlist system that we use when reviewing applications as space opens up.

Important: We are currently full with a waitlist, but do rolling intakes each term as space opens up. The section leader will get in contact with you closer to the time if/when we have some space available.

Key things to know:

Our Sections

Cubs (Age 8-11)

When: Tuesday nights 6:00pm - 7:30pm

Where: The Scout Hall, Sugar Lane, Frankton Marina

We do intakes at various times of the year depending on our current numbers.

Scouts (Age 11-14)

When: Wednesday nights 6:00pm - 8:00pm

Where: The Scout Hall, Sugar Lane, Frankton Marina

We do intakes at various times of the year depending on our current numbers. Priority is given to Cubs moving up.

Reality check: If your child isn't already in the scouting movement, it is highly unlikely that we will ever be able to get them in. The only real exception is if you have experience in the outdoors or with kids and are keen to become a leader yourself - then there is a chance.

Keas (Age 5-8) - Not Currently Running

Due to lack of leaders, we're not running Keas at the moment. Please wait until your child is closer to 7.5 years old and then apply for Cubs.

Fees

First 4 weeks are free, then $130 per term.

Become a Leader - Unlock More Opportunities

One of our limitations to accepting more youth is the number of leaders we have (the other is the size of our hall). If you become a leader, we will make room to accommodate your child.

✓ Your Child Gets In

We'll make space for your child when you commit as a leader

✓ Real Impact

Help shape young people's lives through adventure and challenge

✓ Manageable Commitment

2-3 hours a week during school terms, plus a bit of planning

✓ Training Provided

Full support and training - no experience necessary

If you're interested in becoming a leader and have a scouting or outdoors background (or just keen to learn), please reach out. We always welcome more assistance and if you're able to commit, we will make room to accommodate your child.
